There are two popular views that people have on government. One is that people should be able to control their own lives and make their own decisions, without the control of the government. The other group believes that without government, we would wreak havoc on the world and live in a total nightmare. I, however, stand in between the two viewpoints.
I do believe that with no form of government, the world would become a total crime-stricken disaster. With no rules or laws to follow, people would go crazy. If there were no laws, and therefore no punishment, there would be no reason to control oneself. For instance, criminals would not be punished and would wonder about freely in the world. We cannot have circumstances like this occurring to have a well functioning society, so there needs to be some laws and rules to follow, as well as enforcers and punishment to an extent.
On the other hand, with too much control, we lose our freedom. We lose who we are as individuals, and lose the ability to make decisions for ourselves. We need to be able to be ourselves without breaking some rule. However, I believe that there can be a midpoint to these two views. We need some form of government to guide us, but not rule us. This way, the world will stay civil, while people can still express their views freely. The government cannot be the only source of control though. The people still need to be able to give their say and have it make an actual difference. If people can give their say, but no one takes it into consideration, then it becomes completely pointless. It is necessary that we are able to express ourselves, and have some control over what happens in our society.
When we are at this midpoint, I believe society can operate well. Too much say or not enough simply does not work. We need this happy medium to be a jovial, functioning society.
